Amara is a New Jersey based company that partners with the artisans of India to bring the rich cultural heritage of rattan to the global marketplace. In every creation, highly-skilled artisans use traditional rattan weaving techniques that have been passed on through generations.

Our founder, Gauri Sharma, started Amara in 2019 with a vision to invest long-term in these rattan artisans with sustainable income opportunities, ethical trades practices, and preservation of the craft through community-based educational programs. Growing up in India and later moving to the United States, Gauri’s personal experience blending Indian and American cultures enriched her life and became something she wanted to share with others.

At Amara, we seamlessly blend both cultures by designing our collection of products and custom pieces in the United States, and having artisans in India create the products by hand using traditional weaving techniques.
